We’re starting this blog to share the exciting journey of creating Plant Provenance, the first in a series of digital solutions we plan to roll out. This isn’t just another plant platform—it’s something new and different. We want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at what we’re building, why it matters, and how it can change the way we all collect and care for plants. Follow along to better understand what Plant Provenance is all about and how it’s going to make a real difference in the plant community.

Founding Hortikult and Developing Plant Provenance

Welcome to the first blog post from Hortikult! We’re excited to share our journey with you, from founding Hortikult to developing Plant Provenance. In this post, we’ll explain why we started this project and tell you a bit about ourselves.

How Hortikult, the Company, Started

The idea for Hortikult came from our love for plants. We saw that plant collectors needed a way to find trustworthy sellers and know the history of their plants. We wanted to create a place where growers, sellers, breeders, and collectors could connect, share their passion, and trust the provenance of their plants. We founded Hortikult in the summer of 2023 and we’re currently in the process of registering it as an LLC in the Czech Republic.

Why We Are Creating Plant Provenance

We created Plant Provenance to fill a gap in the plant community. Knowing where a plant comes from is important for making informed decisions and building trust. Our goal is to provide easy access to detailed provenance information, connect users with reliable sellers, and build a supportive community. We believe this will make plant collecting more enjoyable and reliable for everyone.

About Us

Hortikult is led by a diverse team. As we celebrate Pride Month this June, we’re proud to say that our team is led by women and LGBTQI+ members. Our co-founders, Tanya Quintieri (CEO) and Jos Vanden Abeele (Product Developer & Creative Mastermind) bring a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives to our mission.

Tanya has over 20 years of experience in translation, web design, and corporate communications. She is passionate about connecting people and building communities. Jos loves tropical houseplants and has a background in bio-engineering. He brings know-how, creativity, and innovation to our projects.

Our Progress So Far

Since starting Hortikult, we’ve been working hard on Plant Provenance. We brainstormed for hours on end during the ideation phase, and in collaboration with a team of developers and designers, we designed the user experience and specified the technical framework. We’re now in the development phase and need your help to make this vision a reality.

How You Can Help

We invite you to join us on this journey. Visit our Kickstarter campaign and take our survey to share your thoughts. Your feedback is crucial in making sure Plant Provenance has all the features you need to collect with confidence.

Our Commitment to Transparency and Sustainability

We believe that transparency helps promote responsible plant sourcing. This can reduce the incentive for illegal poaching and support the protection of natural habitats. We aim to create a community that values transparency, celebrates excellence, and promotes sustainable practices.

Looking to the Future

As we continue to develop Plant Provenance and grow Hortikult, we’re excited about what’s ahead. We’re committed to building a platform that meets practical needs and enriches the plant collecting experience.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we can make a difference in the plant community. Stay tuned for more updates, stories, and insights from Hortikult.
